About the Film

The Last Jaguar is a stop-motion animated short film shot frame by frame. The indiscriminate hunting of this endangered species is the starting point of the story. The production took 18 months. The sets were made using pyrography on parchment paper, with designs inspired by seventeenth-century European engravings; the characters were handcrafted in wood, with pyrographic details and articulated joints for animation. The film addresses nature conservation and is set among archaeological ruins in Chiapas, where the jaguar was considered sacred by the Maya.
